Wider community links
Meadowfield Schools values it place within the local community. Pupils throughout the school access community facilities including local parks, leisure centres and shops. As the pupils progress through the school the links with the community strengthen to enable the pupils to develop confidence to contribute to and be a part of their local community through enrichment visits, project work, sporting links and work experience.
The School Council is active in organising fundraising activities and events to support a range of local, national and international charities, and disaster relief appeals. For example: Demelza House Children’s Hospice, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, British Heart Foundation, Comic Relief, Sport Relief, Children in Need and Jeans for Genes.
The 6th Form have developed a range of Community links which aid the transition of our young people onto worthwhile activities and occupations when they leave the school. These include regular weekly vocational sessions at Canterbury and Mid Kent College. We also have transitional opportunities at Hadlow College at Canterbury Sheppey College, Sittingbourne Skillnet, The John Graham Centre, The Crawford Centre, Elham Valley Vineyard, Kent Mencap and the Kent Autistic Trust.
We actively encourage all students to undertake a period of Work Experience which is tailored to meet their individual needs. Each student will complete a day a week placement over a 6 week period, which can be extended if it helps the student to grow and progress.
