Welcome to Caterpillars Class, part of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Meadowfield School.  We have all settled in to our new class nicely and are enjoying using the toys.  We really like visiting the Sensory Garden where we have watched the fish being fed.

Teacher: Ms McKenna

Teaching Assistants: Ms Lewis, Ms Reeves and Ms Beechinor

In Caterpillars class we learn through a combination of planned play and teacher directed lessons.  We work to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and Development Matters documents which cover seven areas of learning. These are:

Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED); Communication and Language (CL); Physical Development (PD); Mathematics (M); Understanding the World (UW); and Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).

This year we will be visiting the seven areas of learning through different topics: Term 1 Autumn; Term 2 Celebrations; Term 3 Travel and transport; Term 4 Spring;  Term 5 Seaside and Term 6 Animals and minibeasts.

In order for all the children to reach their full potential we use a multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning.  The children develop skills in the seven areas of learning through songs and rhymes, Write Dance, ‘messy’ play, sensory stories and small world and role play.  The children have the opportunity to explore and investigate a wide range of different learning materials.  We have access to adventure play to support our physical development.  We plan learning opportunities in different areas, for example in the sensory garden, the library, the soft play and the outside learning area.  We have lots of fun but we learn lots too!
