Seven local special schools are seeking to change their legal category from community to foundation and at the
same time create Kent SEN Trust as their legal foundation. Crucially they will not be leaving the Kent Local
Authority family of maintained schools. The schools involved are:

 Bower Grove School
 Foxwood School
 Grange Park School
 Highview School (which is federated with Foxwood School)
 Meadowfield School
 Ridge View School
 Rowhill Special School

In addition, Valence School, Goldwyn School and Ifield School, which are already foundation schools, are proposing
to acquire the same charitable trust.

The ten schools named above will enter into a consultation process from noon on Monday 29th September 2014 to
noon on Monday 20th October 2014.

Broomhill Bank School, which are already a foundation school, are intending to join the trust as a partner school
but not to adopt the new trust as their legal foundation.

Attached is an information leaflet that sets out briefly the implications of the proposed change of category and the
creation of a local mutual co-operative school trust, as well as the reasons why the Governing Bodies and
Headteachers are proposing it. It also seeks to answer some of the more common questions. The leaflet also
includes dates, times and venues of consultation meetings for parents/carers. Ours will be on Thursday 02nd
October at 3.30pm for staff and at 6.00pm for other stakeholders at Meadowfield School in the school hall.

A much more comprehensive and in-depth consultation document (known as ‘Booklet One’) can be obtained from
your school via its website, or in paper copy from the school office. Similarly, a detailed Questions and Answers
document is also available (‘Booklet Two’).

A key part of the initial consultation process includes gathering stakeholder views and feedback and included with
this letter is a consultation questionnaire for you to complete and return to your school.

We consider your views to be very important and hope that you are able to help us to determine the best way forward for our schools.
If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact either of us at your earliest convenience.

Yours faithfully

Principal: Ms J Palmer

Chair of Governors: Mr R Hollis
