Phoenix House - Community Action
Students from Quest class have been visiting Phoenix House in Sittingbourne once a week as part of their Community Action work.
Sara Seabridge, the Manager, wanted a mural painted on the wall in one of the community centre’s rooms.
Students decided that as the room was called the ‘Library’, they would base the mural on characters from Roald Dahl’s books. They chose the characters and a teaching assistant drew an outline on the wall. Over the course of several weeks, students painted the characters and added some inspirational words. The completed mural is an appealing, colourful, eye-catching piece of art that students rightly feel very proud of.
Students felt personally invested in the project since they had been involved from the initial planning stages. They all contributed to the project and had a great time in the process.
Sara was delighted with the results and has asked if Quest can undertake an environmental project at the community centre in the near future.
