Welcome to Caterpillars Class, part of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Meadowfield School.

In Term One we will be settling into our new class and we will be busy learning the new routines.  We will take part in PE and so need a PE kit in school.

In Caterpillar class we learn through a combination of Planned Play and Teacher Directed activities.  We work to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and Development Matters documents which cover seven areas of learning. These are:

Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED); Communication and Language (CL); Physical Development (PD); Literacy (L); Mathematics (M); Understanding the World (UW); and Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).

This year we will be visiting the seven areas of learning through different topics, following the interests of the children and a range of practical and creative activities.

In order for all the children to reach their full potential, we use a multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning.  The children develop skills in the seven areas of learning through songs and rhymes, Write Dance, ‘messy’ play, sensory stories and small world and role play.

The children have the opportunity to explore and investigate a wide range of different learning materials and within different environments, for example in the sensory garden, the library, adventure play, soft play and the outside learning area.  We have lots of fun but we learn lots too!

Caterpillar Class team are always happy to hear from you and to help your child in the best possible ways.
